

The Board will decide how the money is disbursed on a need basis. Funding requests will be accepted from non profit or charitable organizations or community service organizations. The Planters EMC Operation Round Up® is governed by a separate Board of Directors made up of community leaders. But please keep in mind that it is still a voluntary program and you may opt in or out at any time. We truly believe that the vast majority of our members will want to participate in the worthwhile program, so it is much easier to implement by asking for a response from a smaller percentage rather than a much larger percentage. We chose this method based on information from many other EMC’s that have implemented the program this way. This was a difficult decision that was made after much consideration. WHY IS PLANTERS EMC AUTOMATICALLY ENROLLING EVERYONE? It is an inexpensive and convenient way to give to charitable and educational programs within your community. On average, a member will only contribute $6.00 PER YEAR but with everyone pitching in, all that extra change really adds up. For example if your bill is $87.23, you will actually be billed $88.00 and the extra $.77 goes toward helping various goodwill causes in your community. Unless you choose NOT to participate, your electric bill is “rounded up” each month to the nearest whole dollar amount with the extra change going into a separate Operation Round Up® fund. Together, those small amounts will make a big difference! Through Operation Round Up®, each participating Planters EMC member makes a small monthly contribution. It was designed to help a variety of worthwhile community, youth, educational and environmental programs. This was originally started by Palmetto Electric Membership Cooperative in South Carolina and has since been adopted by many co-ops in Georgia. Fill your bathtub with water for bathroom use before the storm (if you have a well).You now have the opportunity to help others in your community through a program called “Operation Round Up®”.Use flashlights and other battery-operated lighting instead of candles.For example, a fireplace insert or wood stove will keep the heat in your home instead of up the chimney. Consider purchasing alternative UL-approved heating devices.Make sure you have cold weather clothing, foul weather gear, blankets, and sleeping bags.Put first-aid kits in your home and car.Use plastic trash bags and ties for garbage.Pre-moistened cleansing towelettes are useful and help conserve water. Keep sanitary and personal hygiene supplies replenished.Playing cards, books, drawing and writing materials, and board games help pass the time.Maintain a supply of prescriptions, nonprescription drugs, vitamins, and special dietary foods.Coordinate with neighbors for the care of the elderly and disabled living alone.Keep extra batteries, matches, propane, charcoal, and firewood.Keep essential family member contact information near your phone, in your wallet, and in your glove compartment.

Rotate your supplies to keep them fresh and use the following checklist to prepare for power outages: Assemble supplies to have on hand rather than rushing around when the storm is coming and waiting in long lines for milk or bread. If your lights go off during a storm, be prepared for the power outage. Your telephone number acts as a guide so we can quickly locate your address. Please keep your telephone number updated with Central Georgia EMC.Our automated response system will return calls to members to confirm that their power has been restored. When you call in to report the outage, you can hear an outage report to see if an outage has already been reported in your area.You can also text OUTAGE to 352667 from the mobile phone number listed on your account.
